Metropolitan Day School

Brief Description of Metropolitan Day School Project:

This project consisted of design/build services to the client. The project scope consisted of taking an existing 25,000 square foot facility, once owned and used by Howard University School of Religion, and converting the facility into a private Christian School for pre-K through 8th grades.

Because of the building’s original use and occupancy permit, several presentations had to be made by Columbia and it’s consultants on behalf of the client to the DC Board of Zoning regarding the proposed building use.

As a result, all zoning issues were subsequently resolved to the satisfaction of the Zoning Board as well as the surrounding community. Immediately upon zoning approval, construction began which included but not limited to a full gut renovation, upgrade of the facility plant, addition of a 4-stop elevator, library, multi-purpose room, cafeteria and hazardous materials (asbestos) abatement.
