Bruce D. Mitchell, President and CEO of COLUMBIA, has 23 years of Architectural Design, Construction Management and General Contracting experience. He is a graduate of the School of Architecture from Kansas State University and holds a Bachelors of Architecture. In his professional career he has worked on a broad range of projects of varying size, scope and complexities. Mr. Mitchell has been involved in Architecture and Construction projects throughout the U.S. and Canada with major architecture, construction and development companies. Mr. Mitchell came to the Washington area through the recruitment efforts of the Marriott Corporation, Bethesda, MD where, over a period of five years, he held key management positions in Marriott's Architecture and Construction Divisions.

 

While at Marriott, Mr. Mitchell led the expansion of the Roy Rogers restaurant concept and the conversion of Howard Johnson Restaurants to HOJO'S after a major Marriott acquisition for the Restaurant Development Division. As a Sr. Project Manager, Hospitality Services Division, he managed in-house and outside professional Architectural and Engineering (A&E) teams who provided design and engineering for hundreds of food service operations including corporate, health-care and educational facilities. As Design Manager for the West Coast/Canada Residence Inn Hotel Division, he led and managed the A&E teams responsible for in-house proto-type development, outside A&E consultant services and over $150 million in hotel development and construction.

 

In March of 1993, Mr. Mitchell was awarded the "Fire Mark Award" for outstanding community service in the area of historical properties design and renovation by Fireman's Insurance Company of Washington, D.C. He is active in many building industry associations, as well as the Washington, D.C. community at large.

Landen McCall, Director of Military Housing Development, has 30 years experience in housing, real estate and economic development. Landen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University and has worked on major housing and development related projects throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Throughout his career Landen has held key management, supervisory and executive positions within the public and private sectors.

Landen has personally managed over $100 million in residential and commercial developments, rehabilitation and restoration projects. He has been responsible for site assessments, planning, legal review, financial analysis and contract administration and construction management of various projects with budgets ranging from $100,000 to $15,000,000. In addition, as a direct result of his expertise and work ethic, he was awarded the Fannie Mae Maxwell award in 1997. Landen brings extensive "know-how" and housing experience to the COLUMBIA team along with the cooperative spirit to get things done.

Frederick James Hammond holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from The University of Maryland and has experience providing general contractor estimates and project management services for base building and tenant construction on a local and national scale. Throughout his career, Hammond has directed regional retail store planning for a forty-store expansion in six states.

Hammond has experience in roles as senior project manager and director of construction. He has brought his many years of experience to the construction of retail stores, restaurants, hotels, schools, banks, data distribution centers, fiber-optic switch stations, warehouse facilities, merchandise distribution facilities, biotech labs, hospitals and medical facilities. Hammond brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as well as his reputation as a results-oriented person with strong technical knowledge, organizational ability and management skills to the COLUMBIA team.

Patricia Ellis Mitchell, Director of Finance & Corporate Administration, has myriad experience in the corporate and business environment, from running a successful court reporting company, which she eventually sold in 1993, to association management, as Executive Director of the Urban Forest Council of Washington, D.C. (UFC) a national environmental group under the National Forest Service of the USDA. Ms. Mitchell led UFC in successful fundraising efforts which directly supported its operations and programs. She later joined Startec Global Communications, an international telecommunications company, where she was responsible for contract negotiations and administration. She remained with Startec until coming on board with Columbia Enterprises, Inc in April of 2002 as Director of Finance and Administration.

Ms. Mitchell is active in community planning organizations, is an active committee member of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Capital Hill Association of Merchants and Professionals, and National Association of Female Executives.

Antonio R. Smith brings more than 20 years of management and supervisory experience in carpentry, retail management, property management, and semi-custom homes, and production and commercial construction. Smith has performed in field supervisor and coordinator roles. He has experience in home inspections, is familiar with Microsoft’s suite of office applications and operations; and has had business communications experience as both a customer service director and home warranty arbiter.
